At
Herculaneum,
it
was
impossible
to
make
casts
since
the
bodies
had
so
quickly
disintegrated
before
being
covered
with
ash.
Only
skeletons
were
found.
Most
were
in
the
boat
sheds
at
the
beach,
or
on
the
beach.
Far
fewer
were
found
in
the
town.
We
can
guess
they
were
trying
to
get
away
from
the
eruption,
and
that
a
shortage
of
boats
was
the
cause
of
those
300
deaths.
