AD,
there
was
a
series
of
small
earthquakes.
People
were
used
to
these,
so
they
were
not
too
worried.
This
time,
however,
the
earthquakes
were
followed
by
a
massive
eruption.
A
huge
column
of
gas,
ash
and
pumice
blasted
33
kilometres
high
into
the
air.
From
a
distance,
it
looked
like
a
massive
tree
of
smoke
hanging
above
the
mountain.
